D epartment presentation:

The department (GIO) mandate is to support AXA P&C entities in growing their activities in sustainability and profitability. Moreover, the department is promoting technical excellence practices across the world.

Natural Catastrophes (NATCAT) is a key risk for AXA and consequently, AXA has been investing greatly over more than 5 years to build its own internal modelling to assess and manage better this risk. The Data Analytics, Actuarial and Underwriting Solutions team has been building its expertise over the years on the main worldwide perils (floods, storms, earthquakes) thanks to partnerships with scientific laboratories / institutions and close collaboration with local entities.

To value this Group knowledge for the business, the team has been developing actuarial frameworks and underwriting solutions on NATCAT to map (risk maps), select (technical pricings), alert (live geo-data feeds), monitor (accumulations) and assess those risks across the world. Built within the Geospatial Data Solutions division of this team, the AEGIS platform is the GIS hub of those analyses and tools, used by entities for their local risks. Driven by this successful product and the strong willingness to tackle greater challenges, the team is undertaking a core transformation of its geo-data capabilities (based on ESRI technologies) and enhancing the quality of its scientific knowledge to provide always more relevant tools and analyses thanks to ambitious data partnerships (GEM, ECMWF, ... ).

Primary missions for this position:

We are recruiting a NATCAT engineer with a scientific background in Meteorology/Hydrolog y to join us in our developments of the scientific understanding of those risks and its operational valuation across AXA entities with AEGIS product.

Providing scientific support in the building of our ‘LiveCAT’ tool (live assessment of NATCAT events), especially for climatic events.

Generatio n of footprints describing current events or scenario interesting to calibrate a portfolio and gives potential impact.

Using meteorological ECMWF output data for gusts and precipitations to improve the quality of our footprints and the calibration of vulnerability with observations and AXA claims.

Proposing and developing new methodologies to tackle live estimates of a larger set of events: thunderstorms, hail, floods and flash floods, ...

Consolidating and structuring our different methodologies on the main perils (extreme events estimates for accumulation monitoring, risk maps for risk selection...) directly connected to AEGIS applications using ArcGIS

Developing partnerships and joint developments for new data or modelling insights with scientific institutions

Supp ort business development and profitability within AXA P&C entities by developing actuarial solutions consistent with the most up-to-date scientific vision of the hazard and risk.
